David Findley (songwriting, vocals, guitars) and Marc Reynolds (everything else and mixing to boot!) formed The Vulcan Straight just prior to lockdown, recording all the demos for their spectacular debut album in their respective homes, sharing online until each song was completed. Says David: “Marc and I met up whilst in a rock covers band in Llandrindod Wells. I was trying to get an originals band together at that time and Marc came in on that. We played a few gigs with a local drummer, but I disbanded that line up to enable us to play a wider variety of our songs. ” With many broadcasts by BBC Introducing Hereford and Worcester to their credit, the Straight brand is out there already, and this album will put rocket fuel in the tank. Mastered by world-renowned multiple gold record engineer Adam Fuest at his Twin Peaks Studio, ‘The Vulcan Straight’ sounds so fine, spanning the schooled, sophisticated Americana of opener ‘The Riffer’, through the Beatlesque ‘Walk Away’, onward through the purist pop rock of ‘See You In The Morning’, all the way to hard rocking closer ‘Stone Cold Man’. Played with professionalism and passion bespeaking experience and insight, slick, sleek, and suited to ears loving classic rock from all eras, but especially the heights of the Seventies – but killingly contemporary – this debut is a songwriting masterclass, melodic deep dive, and mixing and mastering achievement. Featuring artwork by accomplished Welsh artist – and member of outstanding SWND act Horse Trader, Paul Battenbough – SWND is very proud to release it indeed.
