When Angels Came is the auditory brainchild of Jacques van der Merwe, started during the pandemic to stay productive and sound. It quickly evolved into a creative hub for new songs, as well as an opportunity to revisit old demo tracks. The inspiration duly ignited, and Jacques was able to work on fresh ideas and vocal melodies. The band was subsequently officially formed in 2021. Soon after Jacques reached out to good friend and South African Music Veteran, Mark Beling to record the first tracks at his studio. Mark was part of the legendary Rock Band Mean Mr Mustard, and now has a bustling career as a solo artist and producer. The first of these called ‘Color In Blind’ was released on 29 December 2021, and well received with global radio play, as well as chart positions on the MIX FM SA TOP 40, Banks Radio Australia, Oasis Radio and Radio Indie Alliance. The second called ‘About You’ is now set for release on 30 September 2022. Jacques recently relocated to the Netherlands and continue to work with South African artists. His music style is very focused on melody, stating that “if I cannot sing to the melody of the guitars and vocals, then I struggle to enjoy a song. I focus mostly on creating hard hitting riffs with a melodic chorus which people can enjoy and talks to the heart of the song. Lyrics wise it’s all based on life experiences, or a story that I’m dying to tell the audience. Every song has a meaning. Influence wise I try to find new music every day, I find my inspiration from various bands and genres. Starting with Metallica and Breaking Benjamin back in the day, to new bands like Kensington, Architects and Spiritbox.”

West Sussex-based pop/singer-songwriter Marcus C Dolan is back with his latest single “Ready to Believe. It is a feel good song about new beginnings, goals and self belief. The track, a dreamy, keyboard-driven ballad, coaxes the listener into optimism. Virtual orchestration peppers the pre-chorus, building up to a sweeping refrain that echoes the title. Inspiration from the likes of John Mayer, Bruce Hornsby, and Nick Mulvey are evident in Marcus’ honest lyrics and self-production, all the while maintaining clear commercial appeal. With over 25 years of songwriting, producing, and composing, Marcus is by no means new to the industry. His formal musical education in college led to singing with the Wembley Community Gospel choir at the Albert Hall and also playing with the London Sinfonietta at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. He shares, “ I would like to enable more people to hear my breadth of musical genres, so that they can relate to the songs, or at least feel that it has helped to make their day a little easier.” In 2017, with a leap of faith and a dollop of courage, Marcus decided it was time to shine more light on being a singer-songwriter and performer himself. His releases traverse genres, all observational and semi-autobiographical. Songwriting has helped him through the cloudy moments, and allowed him to celebrate the good times. Recently, a move to a quieter part of the UK has given him new head space to reflect and breathe. “Ready to Believe” emerges from this new era in Marcus’ life, a positive song about new beginnings, goals and self-belief.

Embertears is a musical project of Tamas Geza Albert started in 2021 December. It is located in Győr, Hungary (close to Austrian border and Wien) The genre is sludge/progressive/stoner metal with many other influences. The aim is creating concept albums to concentrate on particular themes and work out their entire story via the lyrics and the music. The Flood is a concept album describing the Biblical Flood and the connected events.
