National Milk Bar are an intriguing electronic pop duo consisting of Sash & Chuzz. NMB formed out of the Covid pandemic. The pair had met and enjoyed playing together while fronting Welsh ska band Cartoon Violence, which has played live venues across the UK and Europe. Chuzz began creating music at home while people couldn’t get out and perform and asked Sash to contribute to them and so NMB was formed. Chuzz offers interesting songwriting, with piano and synth hooks at the heart, along with lyric writing and his distinctive vocals. Sash offers her intimate vocal style, lyric writing, and the occasional blast of sax. NMB’s style is electronic pop with an 80’s vibe along with an occasional more mellow, acoustic, and stripped back side that can be seen, certainly live. There are nods to bands like Depeche Mode, Human League and Yazoo giving the familiar sound a sparkling and modern feel. While there’s not been much opportunity for live appearances just yet, the pair has managed to play at Landed Festival and at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre between lockdowns which were well-received.
